African elephants are not only the largest elephant family, they are also the largest land animals in the world. Each weighs about 6 tonnes and stands 3.2 metres tall. Females are about 60 cm shorter and are half the weight of males. Male Asian elephants are about 2 m tall and weigh 4 tonnes, while African ones weigh 2 tonnes and stand 2.2 m tall.
